Before time began God knew that one day He would begin a Presbyterian church on Fleming Island. Fleming Island Presbyterian Church was begun by the Presbytery of Saint Augustine.
In 2001 the Presbytery of St. Augustine purchased 4.52 acres of land that contained a small three-bed room one-bath house with a 3+ car garage on County Road 220. The purchase price was $550,000.00. The Presbytery called the Reverend Doctor Jim Weldon, Jr. to be the organizing pastor.
On September 15, 2002, Dr. Weldon moved down to Florida from Georgia. Dr. Weldon went to work gathering a core group of members. By January 2003, Dr. Weldon’s family had joined him in Florida. They lived in the little three-bedroom, one-bath house on the church property until their home was built. The little house became known as the “Church House”.
In January 2003, the first meeting was held in the little house on the property. The group decided to meet every Wednesday night for a Fellowship Dinner and Bible Study. These dinners were held in the 3+ car garage which became known as the “Fellowship Hall.” After dinner, the whole group would sing worship songs accompanied by Pastor Jim who played the guitar. After singing, the children and youth would go into the house and have their own Bible Study, which were led by various volunteers. The adults stayed in the garage for their Bible Study.
By May 2003, the group was averaging 37 people in attendance. The group held their first worship service at Eagle Harbor Club House on April 20, 2003. It was an outdoor Easter Sunrise service. It was very well attended, and a lot of work! The group anticipated a busy summer preparing to launch their 1 st ongoing public worship service. The core group became the Organizational Task Force (OTF) who went to work creating a “Mission Statement,” to keep this church focused on biblically based purposes. This group also developed Core Values and Core Beliefs. On September 14, 2003, FIPC held the first ongoing Sunday Worship service at Lick Skillet, a small building used as a daycare in Eagle Harbor with 75 people attending.

By December 2003, they outgrew the facility with an average of 86 in attendance. In January 2004 worship service was moved to the Fleming Island High School Cafetorium.
By September 2005, Fleming Island Presbyterian Church became an official church in the PC(USA) with 166 members! God has been blessing this church right from the beginning. They quickly grew in spirit, vision and members.
In May 2006 the Presbytery bought an adjacent 4 acres for $475,000 . The house has been converted into a Christian Counseling Center and a large Youth meeting room. The garage is used for storing our transportable equipment used each week to set up worship at the high school. On March 2, 2008, we had a Ground Breaking Ceremony. As of that date our membership was 259 with average worship attendance of 203.
